Kate Cohen was born and raised in Seattle, Washington. She pursued a bachelor’s degree at Pomona College in Claremont, California where she discovered her passion for the fields of teaching and social work. Following college, she spent a year on a Fulbright Fellowship in Mauritius researching domestic violence legislation and related NGOs. In 2003 she earned a master’s degree from Columbia University School of Social Work as a Scheinberg Fellow. She went on to join the New York City Teaching Fellows Program as a sixth grade teacher in a Brooklyn elementary school. In 2004 she earned a Masters of Education from Brooklyn College, The City University of New York.
Later that same year, Kate joined her experience as a lifelong pianist with her educational background when she began teaching piano at St. Andrew’s Music Academy in Gibraltar under the Associated Board of Royal Schools of Music curriculum. In 2005 she became Co-Director of SAMA, while continuing to teach students of all ages in both piano and music theory in private weekly lessons. In 2006 she added Kindermusik to her repertoire, leading groups of young children and their parents in music and movement classes.
Kate now offers piano and Kindermusik lessons from her apartment in Tel Aviv. She also holds a Teaching English as a Foreign Language Certificate, and now offers English lessons to students of all levels and abilities.
